Behind the Buzz: How We Infuse Our Herbal Honeys
Share
At Blessings Bee Bzzaar, our herbal honeys are more than just sweet treats, they’re intentional infusions crafted to carry the essence and properties of plants into your everyday life. Every jar we make blends mindful preparation, old-world herbalism, and a sprinkle of kitchen love.
Why Honey?
Honey is a natural carrier, a transportation tool for the medicinal and energetic properties of herbs. While raw honey on its own has antimicrobial and antibacterial benefits, we gently heat ours during the infusion process. This means some of the raw benefits are reduced, but in exchange, we create a safe, shelf-stable way for herbs to be part of your daily rituals. The wildflower pollen remains, so if you’ve reacted to honey before, proceed with care.
Honey is also:
-
A soothing remedy for sore throats.
-
A gentle way to introduce herbs without brewing tea.
-
A versatile pantry staple that works with both sweet and savory dishes.
The Infusion Method
We use a double-boiling process, think slow, steady, and gentle heat.
-
Choosing the Herbs
We start with dried herbs, never fresh, to ensure a safe, mold-free infusion. Each herb is chosen for its flavor, benefits, and intention. For example, lavender for calm, hibiscus for heart health, and blue lotus for dreamwork and spiritual clarity. -
The Double-Boil
Using heat-safe borosilicate glass beakers (the kind scientists use) and stainless steel, we place the herbs in honey and warm them in a water bath. This slow process coaxes the plant’s compounds into the honey without burning or caramelizing it. -
Straining with Care
Once the infusion is complete, we strain out the herbs while the honey is still warm, cold honey is far too sticky to work with. This step gives us a smooth, golden final product. -
Bottling
The honey is poured into glass jars, no plastic, to preserve purity and flavor. Stainless steel tools are used, but we avoid unnecessary metal contact for those with sensitivities like nickel allergies.
Personal Roots of Our Honey Work
For me, honey is deeply personal. My daughter was born with a vascular anomaly called a lymphangioma, which sometimes causes swelling and discomfort in her mouth and tongue. Honey has been a gentle, effective way to soothe those flare-ups without relying on heavily processed medicines.
As someone with environmental allergies and a minimalist diet, I also prefer the simplicity of plant medicine over the long ingredient lists of conventional drugs. Herbs and honey offer me, my family and now my customers, a natural, mindful alternative.
The Herbalist’s Philosophy
Not all herbs are meant for everyday use. Some are daily allies; others are for short-term support. Honey makes both easy to incorporate into your life: a spoon in your tea, a drizzle over toast, or even straight from the jar when you need a quick boost.
Our Honey & Tea Pairings
We design our chakra teas with our honeys in mind, creating blends that enhance each other’s benefits. But honestly? We haven’t found a tea that doesn’t pair beautifully with our honeys. We dare you to try.
DIY: Make Your Own Herbal Honey
We love when our customers try their own infusions at home. Support your local apothecary for herbs, experiment with flavors, and share your results with friends and family. Herbal honey isn’t a Blessings Bee Bzzaar invention, it’s an ancient practice we’re keeping alive and adapting for modern life.
Of course, if you’d rather skip the kitchen experiment, we’re happy to ship you our jars and bottles, local or not.
Whether you buy a jar from us or make it in your own kitchen, herbal honey is a sweet, powerful way to connect with plant medicine. Every spoonful carries a story, a purpose, and a little intention, and we’re honored to share that with you.
