Overview & Traditional Uses

Pau D'Arco, also known as Lapacho, Taheebo, or "Bow Wood," is the inner bark of a majestic flowering canopy tree native to Central and South America. Deeply revered for generations in traditional Amazonian and Andean folk medicine, this resilient inner bark is packed with naturally occurring naphthoquinones (such as lapachol) and potent polyphenols celebrated for deep immune and microflora balance.

  • Immune & Microbial Balance: A premier traditional botanical steeped to support natural immune defenses, encourage a healthy internal microbiome, and maintain microbial equilibrium throughout the body.

  • Metaphysical & Folklore Uses: Associated with inner strength, impenetrable protection, resilience, and uncrossing. In folk traditions, it is used in ritual teas, protective charms, and purification washes to shield sacred spaces and build energetic fortitude.

  • Slow Decoctions & Tonics: The dense inner bark requires a rolling simmer to fully release its active bitter and woody principles into restorative teas, tonics, and foot/bath soaks.

Brewing & Preparation

  • Decoction Method: Add 1–2 teaspoons of cut inner bark to 10–12 oz of water in a small pot. Bring to a rolling boil, reduce heat, cover, and gently simmer for 15–20 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for an additional 10 minutes before straining.

  • Herbal Chai & Spice Blend: Simmer alongside cinnamon sticks, cloves, and ginger root to complement its naturally woody, earthy flavor profile.

  • Pairs Well With: Cat's Claw Bark, Ginger Root, Cinnamon, Clove, Burdock Root.

Precautions & Storage

  • Precautions: Not recommended for use during pregnancy or while nursing. Avoid use if taking prescription anticoagulant or antiplatelet (blood-thinning) medications, or before scheduled surgery. High doses should not be used long-term without consulting a qualified healthcare practitioner.

  • Storage: Store sealed in an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry pantry away from direct heat and moisture.
